First Sonogram

We had our first sonogram, and wow was it amazing! We got to see and hear our baby's heartbeat and see it wave and kick it's legs! It was such a high. To be able to see what is growing inside of you and is making you feel the way you do, is just amazing. There really is a tiny little being inside of me!

We also had our first visit with our midwife, and it was very encouraging. Everything seems to be progressing well and on track. We are excited to find out the sex of the baby, so we can start working on the nursery!

A Baby on the Way

Two weeks ago, Matt and I found out that we are expecting a little one! We are honored that God is entrusting us with a child to love and raise, even if it is sooner than our initial plans. God's timing is perfect though, and we are excited to begin this journey and new phase in our marriage. We have shared the news with our families and close friends, and you can imagine the joy we felt as we received loving support and encouragement. We love sharing this news with each new person!

Our due date is October 28, 2011, and we are in the process of researching birthing methods, doctors, midwives and insurance plans. We are leaning toward a natural birth and have visited a couple of birthing facilities and met with a pro natural doctor at Baylor. We have a lot of support for a natural birth and wish to continue down that path unless complications arise.

Pregnancy symptoms that prove true for me...

  • Fatigue - I am always tired. My new bedtime is 8:30p, and naps are a must. I have been going home for lunch and sleeping whenever I can.
  • Bloating - The unfortunate feeling that sweatpants are the only comfortable bottoms. I'm mastering the fashion of dressing up Nike black workout pants.
  • Nausea - Like clockwork, I started feeling nauseous the afternoon of my 6 week marker. Since then, food is my worst enemy. I have recommendations to help ease the intensity that I am anxious to try.
  • Mood Swings - Yes, my husband is so understanding!

I'm so Rich!

The last few days I have been sick about having to pay $1700 for a car repair. I have been self consumed over the situation. I have wished that I could blame someone else, spend the money on other things, even felt like I should sell my car and get something else when it was fixed, and been upset that it would take so much from our savings. ...Right - Savings! Thankfully, I HAVE savings! Thankfully, I HAVE a car to drive.

I listened to a Francis Chan message yesterday that really convicted me. I have been so focused on what I am losing that I have pushed aside what I have. I am so blessed. I have so much. But beyond all the monetary, tangible things I have been given, I have Christ. Everything else is exactly that - everything else! I am wealthy in Him. I have Life.

Satan is Targeting Me

I met a friend for lunch yesterday and during our conversation was reminded of the fact that none of us are above our sinful flesh. What does that mean? Just because we are followers of Christ does not make us free from Satan's attacks. Satan prowls like a lion waiting to devour us. We must be alert and self controlled. - (para) 1 Peter 5:8. We all sin - from our thoughts to our actions. As a believer our lives do not instantly become easier - with unicorns, rainbows and colored cuddly bears, in fact it’s the opposite...we become more aware of the wrong in lives and go to battle every day, every minute! Satan waits, he looms in the darkness for any chance he can to  strike us and cause us to stumble. He is sneaky and powerful, but not as powerful as our Savior who already won that fight! John 16:33. It's up to us to choose Christ and use the tools he gives us to battle our way across the finish line, eternity with Him.

What can I do? I must constantly pray for God to rescue me (1 Thessalonians 5:17), to be on my guard, to not trick myself in thinking I've got it all down, surround myself with others that will call me out in my wrong and sharpen me in love - flee from isolation.  I cannot think that 'I would never ______ - fill in the blank. It's at that time when we are deceived. I must continue my daily time with God and keep learning and molding my life to look more like Christ. As long as I am walking in step with the Lord, Satan will be in the shadows waiting to devour me.

Intro

Matthew and I were married a few months ago, and I decided it would be a good idea to start blogging. I've learned that it can be a challenge to update everyone with the events and activities of our life, so this way, friends and family can read updates!

We are still in the process of settling into our home. Matthew bought a house last fall and had two roommates living with him up to the week before we got married. It was such a blessing for him to live with other solid men. Since late September, I have been reorganizing, decorating, nesting and loving getting settled into my new/first home! It is definitely a process. My brother wondered what I was going to do with all my 'extra' time since I didn't have a wedding to plan anymore...well, I think I found out!

I wanted to post some of my favorite pictures from our wedding. Our photographer is so gifted!
